The interesting fact here is that 95000 of these islands are within the lakes of the country. Quite a lot of these islands are not connected by road and can only be reached via water transport. Kayaking has become popular in this area and one can spot quite the number of kayaking and fishing enthusiasts in the waters that surround these islands in Finland

The country of Norway takes the third spot but a very distant third from the winner and first runner up of this compilation. Norway has a total of around 55000 islands. The islands are along the coast of the country extending into the Arctic. With these numerous islands along the coast Norway sports so many beautiful coastlines for its people and visitors. The country that takes the fourth and final spot in this list for country with as many islands is Canada. This North American country through from another continent shares one common trait with the Scandinavian winners. That is the Arctic. Yes, Canada has a lot of islands that extend into the Arctic region or the North pole. Canada to its credit has close to 52500 islands within its borders. One interesting fact is that approximately 30000 of these islands are in fresh water!! That’s true, these islands are within the Georgian bay of Lake Huron. Another interesting fact of the Canadian islands is their size. Canada has some of the largest islands in the world with Baffin Island being the largest in the country and fifth largest in the world.
